Springhill
The campground is open and accepting reservations. The east end of the park including Loop B and the East Boat Ramp were closed April 13 through May 15, 2026 for repaving; the closure ends today and those areas should reopen.
From Recreation.gov
**Temporary Closure at Springhill Park: **The east end of Springhill Park, including the B Area and the East Boat Ramp, will be temporarily closed to the public from **Monday, April 13th, 2026, to Friday, May 15th, 2026**. This closure is necessary for contractors to repave and apply new line striping to all roadways, campsites, and parking areas in that section of the park. The closure will allow the work to be completed safely and efficiently, while accounting for potential weather delays. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve the park facilities.
About
Springhill Park occupies a scenic stretch of shoreline on John Paul Hammerschmidt Lake, formed by the James W. Trimble Lock and Dam on the Arkansas River. The campground features 51 sites spread across multiple loops: Loop A with 16 electric sites, Loop B with 28 electric sites, and Loop E with 3 nonelectric sites. Four group picnic shelters are also available for larger gatherings. The park is a destination for anglers targeting catfish, bream, crappie, and both white and largemouth bass year-round. From late fall through early spring, the tailwaters below the lock and dam offer some of the best sauger fishing in the region. Two boat ramps provide lake access. Mountain bikers come specifically for the Springhill Park Mountain Bike Trail, a 10-mile designated National Recreation Trail known for its fast, flowing terrain that hosts frequent races. The Fort Smith Museum of History is about 20 minutes away for those seeking off-bike activities.
