About
Springhill Park is located on John Paul Hammerschmidt Lake at the James W. Trimble Lock and Dam of the Arkansas River near Barling, Arkansas. The campground features spacious sites with electric hookups distributed across multiple loops, with some sites lining the river and others positioned between the lake and Massard Creek. The park is surrounded by bottomland hardwood timber banks, steep bluffs, and open agricultural fields. Recreational opportunities are abundant at Springhill. The 10-mile Springhill Park Mountain Bike Trail is a designated National Recreation Trail known for its fast terrain and frequent races. Year-round fishing in the fertile waters produces catfish, bream, crappie, and white and largemouth bass. From late fall until early spring, the tailwaters immediately below the lock and dam offer some of the best sauger fishing in the country. Boating and birding are also popular activities. The campground provides modern amenities including showers, a dump station, playground, boat ramps, and four large group picnic shelters. Non-electric sites are also available. The Fort Smith Museum of History is located about 20 minutes away.
