About

Split Rock Creek State Park Campground is situated on Split Rock Lake, the only lake in Pipestone County and a popular recreation destination in southwestern Minnesota. The campground features 34 nicely shaded and spaced campsites located along a paved campground road, with 21 sites offering electric hookups. An accessible shower house with flush toilets is available seasonally for camper convenience. The park was created in 1938 when the Works Progress Administration constructed a dam on Split Rock Creek, forming the lake and creating opportunities for water recreation. A beautiful stone arch bridge built from locally quarried Sioux quartzite spans Split Rock Creek and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some campsites are located lakeside, offering waterfront views and direct access to fishing. The park offers a sandy swimming beach, accessible fishing pier, boat rental, and 2.5 miles of hiking trails that wind through wooded areas and along the lake. Prairie Hill features native prairie wildflowers that bloom from spring through fall. The lake contains sunfish, walleye, perch, bass, and northern pike. Winter activities include ice skating, tobogganing, and snowshoeing.
