About

Blue Mounds State Park Group Campground sits within one of southwestern Minnesota's most distinctive state parks, where a 1.5-mile Sioux quartzite cliff rises 100 feet from the surrounding prairie. The park protects 533 acres of native and reconstructed tallgrass prairie that serves as home to approximately 100 pure-strain bison, offering visitors a glimpse into pre-settlement prairie life. The group campground provides designated facilities for organized groups seeking a prairie camping experience. The park features modern amenities including restroom facilities with flush toilets and showers, along with recreational opportunities such as hiking on an award-winning trail system, wildlife viewing, rock climbing, and access to fishing and swimming areas. Prairie wildflowers including prickly pear cactus bloom during summer months, while the bison herd can be observed year-round from designated viewing areas. Located near Luverne in Rock County, the park requires a Minnesota state park vehicle permit in addition to camping fees. Reservations are handled through the state's online system at reservemn.usedirect.com.
