About
Spencer Spit State Park encompasses 138 acres on the northeast side of Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands. The park takes its name from the distinctive sand spit that extends into the water, creating a protected saltwater lagoon on one side. This unique geography makes the park a popular destination for water-based activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, crabbing, and clamming. The campground offers 37 standard reservable campsites, most of which are large and private. Additionally, 16 hiker/biker sites are available first-come, first-served, along with three Cascadia Marine Trail sites accessible only by wind or human-powered watercraft. Two group camps accommodate larger parties, with Group Camp 1 featuring an Adirondack shelter with eight bunks, and Group Camp 3 including a kitchen shelter with electricity. A dump station and two restrooms serve the campground, along with a composting toilet near the beach sites. Campfires are permitted in designated fire pits. Two miles of flat, accessible trails loop around the park's perimeter, traverse the edge of the lagoon, and extend out onto the spit itself. The park offers 11 moorage buoys for boaters, kayak and paddleboard rentals during the summer season, and Junior Ranger programs for children between July 5 and Labor Day. No garbage service is provided, so visitors must pack out all trash following Leave No Trace principles.
Directions
From the Lopez Island ferry landing, follow Ferry Road. Turn left on Center Road, left on Cross Road, right on Port Stanley Road, and left on Bakerview Road. Follow Bakerview Road straight into the park, approximately 4.1 miles from the ferry landing.
