Spencer Spit State Park sits on the northeastern shore of Lopez Island in Washington's San Juan Islands. The park's defining feature is a dramatic sand spit that nearly connects to Frost Island, creating a protected lagoon popular with kayakers and wildlife watchers. The 37 standard campsites are large and private, with several offering beachside locations. An additional 16 hiker/biker sites operate first-come, first-served, and three Cascadia Marine Trail sites serve paddlers arriving by non-motorized watercraft. Two group camps accommodate larger parties: G-1 offers three walk-in sites including an Adirondack shelter with eight bunks for up to 24 people, while G-3 provides a kitchen shelter with electrical outlet, water spigot, picnic tables, and barbecue for groups up to 24. The park features two miles of flat trails circling the lagoon and spit, eleven moorage buoys, and excellent clamming on the public tidelands. Facilities include two restrooms with flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station. Access to Lopez Island requires a Washington State Ferries voyage from Anacortes, making this a destination for campers seeking a quieter San Juan Islands experience away from the busier Orcas and San Juan islands.

Directions

Take Washington State Ferries from Anacortes to Lopez Island. From the ferry landing, drive south on Ferry Road, turn left onto Port Stanley Road, then right onto Bakerview Road. Continue to Spencer Spit Road and follow signs to the park.
