Moran Mountain Lake Campground

Open — Open year-round. Reservations available during peak season; first-come, first-served during off-season.

About

Mountain Lake Campground provides a rustic camping experience in the forested heart of Moran State Park on Orcas Island. Situated on a small peninsula at over 900 feet elevation, the campground serves as a basecamp for exploring the park's largest lake and most dynamic inland terrain. The campground includes sites that accommodate both tents and RVs up to 45 feet, though electrical hookups are not available. Each site features a fire pit and charcoal grill, with cook fires permitted throughout the season. Restroom facilities with showers and running water serve the camping area. A boat launch adjacent to the campground provides access for rowboats, kayaks, and canoes to explore Mountain Lake's two islets and fishing opportunities. Electric motors are allowed on the lake, but internal combustion engines are prohibited. The 4-mile Mountain Lake Loop trail begins at the campground, offering varied terrain from swampland to elevated switchbacks with lake views. Additional trails connect to Twin Lakes, Cascade Falls, and the summit of Mount Constitution. The campground's elevation and isolated location create a cooler microclimate and attract diverse wildlife. During peak season, sites can be reserved in advance; during the off-season, all sites become available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground can also accommodate group camping events for up to 56 people and 14 vehicles.
