About
Birch Bay State Park is located on the shores of Birch Bay in Whatcom County, just 10 miles south of the Canadian border. The 194-acre park features nearly a mile of shoreline along the bay, offering excellent opportunities for beachcombing, clamming, crabbing, and birdwatching. The campground is set in a forested area away from the beach, providing shaded sites with partial hookups available for RVs. The park features the Terrell Creek Marsh, one of the few remaining saltwater/freshwater estuaries in northern Puget Sound. An interpretive trail winds through this ecologically significant area where herons, eagles, and other wildlife are commonly observed. The Birch Bay Heron Center provides educational programs and exhibits about local ecology. Camping is available year-round, with reservations accepted during peak season and first-come, first-served camping in the North Loop during winter months. The park offers modern amenities including flush restrooms, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, and Wi-Fi. Fire pits and picnic tables are provided at campsites.
