About
Spectacle Lake Campground is nestled in the Conejos region of Rio Grande National Forest, surrounded by dramatic cliff walls and easy access to both Spectacle Lake and the Conejos River. The campground features 24 sites, with 13 pull-through sites suitable for RVs and trailers. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Two sites can accommodate two-car groups, making them ideal for larger parties. Fishing is the main draw here, with stocked rainbow trout in Spectacle Lake and additional fishing opportunities along the Conejos River. The lake offers year-round fishing, including winter ice-fishing, though no boating is permitted. Hikers can access Spectacle Lake Trail #730 about half a mile south on Forest Road 250, as well as Ruybalid Trail 855 and Notch Trail 729. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with self-pay fee envelopes at the entrance. Vault toilets and trash service are provided. Note that potable water is not available at this campground; campers should bring their own water supply or obtain water at nearby Conejos Campground. Firewood availability is limited, so bringing your own is recommended.
