About

Conejos Campground is a small, quiet loop campground tucked into the Conejos Canyon of the Rio Grande National Forest in southern Colorado. Designed primarily for tent camping with limited parking for small trailers, it functions as overflow camping for the larger Spectacle Lake Campground nearby. The campground sits at high elevation along the scenic Conejos River, offering easy access to quality fishing. The area provides excellent recreational opportunities including fishing access to both the Conejos River and Spectacle Lake, which offers year-round fishing with winter ice fishing. Several hiking trails are accessible from the campground area: Spectacle Lake Trail 730 begins just half a mile south on Forest Road 250, with Ruybalid Trail 855 and Notch Trail 729 also nearby. This is a primitive campground with basic amenities. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and there is one vault toilet on-site. No potable water is available, so campers must bring an adequate supply. This is pack-in/pack-out camping with no trash service. Horse and pack animals are not permitted. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM, and visitors should practice bear-aware food storage.
