About

Lake Fork Campground is a remote getaway located 40 miles northwest of Antonito, Colorado, in the Rio Grande National Forest. The campground features 18 sites among aspen and mixed conifers, with several sites offering views overlooking the Conejos River. The setting provides excellent opportunities for Gold Medal trout fishing (fly-fishing only) in the river, along with access to numerous hiking trails in the surrounding wilderness. The campground operates seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Sites are available through Recreation.gov reservations or on a first-come, first-served basis. Most sites include picnic tables and fire rings, and potable water is available from a centrally located spigot. Vault toilets are provided. The maximum RV length is 45 feet, though reaching the campground requires an 18-mile drive on a gravel road (Forest Road 250). Nearby attractions include the resort community of Platoro and Platoro Reservoir. Dogs are permitted on leashes no longer than six feet. The 14-day stay limit is strictly enforced. Firewood can be purchased on-site, and fires must remain in the provided metal fire rings.

Directions

From Antonito, CO, take US 285 south 0.3 miles to Hwy 17. Continue straight on Hwy 17 and go 21.9 miles to the Platoro sign (Forest Rd. 250). Turn right onto Rd. 250 (dirt) and go 17.5 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground.
