About
South Fork Family Campground sits at 6,400 feet elevation in San Bernardino National Forest, nestled in a pine and fir forest near the Santa Ana River along Highway 38. The campground offers 28 sites in a peaceful forested setting between Angelus Oaks and Big Bear Lake, with easy access to hiking trails and wilderness areas. This established campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations accepted. Each site accommodates up to 8 people and includes a picnic table and fire pit. The campground is designed for tent camping and smaller RVs, with parking spaces up to 30 feet in length. The location provides access to several nearby trails, including the South Fork Trail and routes into the San Gorgonio Wilderness. The Santa Ana River flows through the area, creating a scenic backdrop for camping. The campground typically operates during summer and fall months when weather and road conditions permit.
Directions
From Big Bear, take Highway 38 towards Redlands for 23 miles and turn left into the campground. From Mill Creek, take Highway 38 towards Big Bear for 21.6 miles and turn right into the campground.
