San Gorgonio
Open for the 2026 season from April 17 through September 18. All 54 sites are reservation-only through Recreation.gov with no first-come, first-served availability. A 2-day minimum stay applies on weekends and a 3-day minimum on holiday weekends.
About
San Gorgonio Campground sits at 6,600 feet in the San Bernardino National Forest, offering a forested retreat with easy access to some of the region's best trails. The campground comprises two loops shaded by black oak, Jeffrey pine, and Ponderosa pine, with one loop providing more privacy between sites than the other. Each of the 54 sites includes a fire ring with grill, picnic table, bear-proof storage box, and paved parking spur. The campground provides excellent access to the Santa Ana River Trail, popular for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The Rio Monte Trail leads to Rio Monte Panorama, overlooking the deep gorge of the Santa Ana River Valley. Fishing opportunities exist in nearby mountain streams, and wildlife viewing is a common activity. A nearby amphitheater hosts educational programs on summer weekend evenings. Big Bear Lake lies approximately 25 miles away, offering additional water recreation, golf, shopping, and dining options for those seeking a day trip from camp.
Directions
Take I-10 East to Redlands. Take the University Street exit (Exit 80). Turn left (northbound) on University Street. Turn right onto E. Lugonia Avenue/SR-38. Continue on State Highway 38 for approximately 20 miles to the campground entrance.
