San Gorgonio

Closed — Currently closed for the season due to excessive road damage caused by mudslides. The campground typically operates from mid-April through mid-September with a 2-day minimum stay on weekends and 3-day minimum on holiday weekends. Reservations available through Recreation.gov up to 12 months in advance.

Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strongest winds will occur through and below the Cajon Pass and adjacent foothills, below the San Gorgonio Pass, and through the canyons of the Santa Ana Mountains.

About

San Gorgonio Campground is situated in the San Bernardino National Forest at an elevation of 6,500 feet, approximately 36 miles northeast of San Bernardino. The campground features 54 reservable sites arranged in two loops within a mixed forest of Black oak, Jeffrey and Ponderosa pine trees. The campground serves as a gateway to excellent hiking opportunities, including the Santa Ana River Trail, which runs from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, and the Rio Monte Trail leading to panoramic overlooks of the Santa Ana River Valley gorge. The campground is located near the Barton Flats Visitor Center and Greyback Amphitheatre, where educational campfire programs are presented on summer weekends. Visitors enjoy fishing in nearby mountain streams, bird and wildlife viewing, and exploring the surrounding forest. Big Bear Lake and its adjacent town are located approximately 25 miles from the campground, offering additional water recreation, golf, shopping and dining options.

Directions

From I-10 East to Redlands, take University Street exit 80. Turn left northbound on University Street, then right onto E. Lugonia Avenue/SR-38. Continue on Highway 38 for approximately 20 miles. Campground entrance on left.
