Oso Group Campground occupies a scenic spot in the Barton Flats area of the San Bernardino Mountains, surrounded by pine forest at roughly 6,600 feet elevation. The single group site can host up to 100 people and 20 vehicles, making it well-suited for large family reunions, scout troops, or organizational gatherings. Amenities include multiple picnic tables, pedestal grills, a central group fire ring, and potable water, though restrooms are not available on site. The campground provides access to excellent hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, including the Santa Ana River Trail and the Rio Monte Trail, which leads to panoramic views of the Santa Ana River Valley. Jenks Lake, a short drive away, offers fishing for rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish, along with non-motorized boating. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage is essential. Reservations are required and can be made through Recreation.gov up to 12 months in advance. The site requires a 2-day minimum stay on weekends and a 3-day minimum on holiday weekends. Roads and parking areas are gravel and dirt.

Directions

Take I-10 East to Redlands. Take the University Street exit (Exit 80). Turn left (northbound) on University Street. Turn right onto E. Lugonia Avenue/SR-38. Continue on State Highway 38 for approximately 22 miles to the campground entrance.
