About

Poinsett State Park sits at a rare ecological crossroads where South Carolina's coastal plain meets the Sandhills, creating an unusually diverse landscape of Spanish moss-draped oaks alongside mountain laurel and galax typically found in the Appalachians. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park preserves five rustic CCC cabins and features atmospheric remnants including a coquina bathhouse and old grist mill ruins. The campground offers 50 sites spread between two areas: 24 standard sites with water and 20/30-amp electric hookups that can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, and 26 tent-only sites with water access. Every site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Campers have access to hot showers, flush restrooms, a dump station, and park-wide WiFi. A primitive group camping area accommodates up to 200 people. The 10-acre Levi Mill Lake serves as the park's centerpiece, offering swimming at a designated beach, fishing for bass and bream, and rentals including kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and pedal boats. Over 25 miles of trails traverse the property, connecting to the Palmetto Trail for extended backcountry exploration.
