Lake Wateree State Park Campground occupies Desportes Island on Lake Wateree, a 13,700-acre reservoir on the Wateree River about 17 miles from Winnsboro and 14 miles from Ridgeway. The campground has 100 paved sites suitable for both RVs and tents. Seventy-two sites provide water and 30/50-amp electric hookups, while 28 sites add sewer connections. Fifty sites accommodate rigs up to 40 feet; the remaining sites handle units up to 35 feet. Eight pull-through sites are available, and 23 sites sit directly on the water. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring with grate. Centralized facilities include restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a dump station, and WiFi. A tackle shop doubles as a camp store and sits adjacent to a two-lane boat ramp with in-water refueling. The 2.3-mile Desportes Island Nature Trail loops through mixed hardwood and pine forest. Lake Wateree supports strong populations of crappie, bream, largemouth bass, catfish, and striped bass, drawing fishing tournaments throughout the year. Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas on a leash no longer than six feet. Reservations require a two-night minimum and can be made up to 13 months in advance online or by calling 1-866-345-PARK.
