About

Covering 7,000 rolling acres of longleaf pine forest and open fields, H. Cooper Black Jr. Memorial Field Trial and Recreation Area serves as the setting for national-level field trial and retriever competitions. The park is among South Carolina's most equestrian-friendly destinations, featuring over 40 miles of trails and sand roads, 24 horse stalls, show rings, kennels, and corrals. The campground provides sites with water and electric hookups suitable for RVs and tent camping, plus primitive camping areas. Two comfort stations offer hot showers, and an RV dump station is available. Unique amenities include WiFi, EV charging, three rentable fishing ponds, retriever training fields, a meeting hall, and a playground near Wood Duck Pond. Blaze orange is required during deer hunting season when venturing outside the campground area per SCDNR regulations. The park operates 24 hours daily with limited office hours. This specialized recreation area caters particularly to sporting dog handlers, equestrians, and those seeking a quieter alternative to traditional state park camping.
