About
Named after the blackwater Little Pee Dee River, this 835-acre state park in Dillon County provides a variety of camping experiences in the South Carolina Sandhills. The campground features 11 full hookup sites with water, electricity, and sewer; 18 sites with water and electric hookups; and 18 designated tent sites with central water access. For those seeking a more rustic experience, three primitive trailside campsites are accessible via the Longleaf Pine trail. All sites have convenient access to modern restroom facilities with hot showers. The park encompasses diverse ecosystems ranging from river floodplains to dry sandy areas, supporting varied flora and fauna. Lake Norton, a 54-acre impoundment, offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities. The park contains a portion of a Carolina Bay, a mysterious geological depression unique to the Atlantic Coastal Plain, formed when ancient oceans receded leaving white sand deposits. Hiking trails wind through longleaf pine forests, and the park is popular for bird watching, picnicking, and geocaching. A primitive group camping area is also available for organized groups.
