About

Soda Butte Campground sits along the Beartooth Scenic Byway in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, just one mile east of Cooke City near the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The campground offers 27 sites in a forested setting with access to Soda Butte Creek. Due to significant bear activity in this corridor, the campground strictly prohibits tent camping and requires all campers to use hard-sided vehicles. Each site includes a picnic table, fire grate, and bear-resistant food storage box. The campground provides vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump. Average parking spurs measure 22 by 60 feet, and the access road accommodates RVs up to 48 feet. There are no hookups, dump stations, or showers. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no reservation system. Sites fill quickly on weekends and holidays during summer; arriving by early afternoon is recommended to secure a spot. The location provides convenient access to hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing in Beartooth Country.
