About

Soda Butte Campground sits at 7,500 feet elevation in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, just one mile east of Cooke City on US Highway 212. This 27-site campground is unique in that it only allows hard-sided camping vehicles; tent camping is not permitted. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available. Sites are $20 per night with an additional $5 fee for extra vehicles. Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount on the base camping fee. The campground provides essential amenities including vault toilets, hand pump water, fire rings, food storage boxes, picnic tables, and trash service. All facilities are ADA accessible. The access road and parking spurs accommodate RVs and trailers, though vehicles longer than 48 feet are not recommended due to road limitations. Average parking spurs measure 22 feet by 60 feet. The campground's proximity to Yellowstone National Park's northeast entrance and the scenic Beartooth Highway makes it a convenient base for exploring the region, though it can fill up on summer weekends and holidays.
