About
Round Lake Cabin is a historic Forest Service cabin situated in the Custer Gallatin National Forest in Park County, Montana, approximately four miles from the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park near Cooke City. The cabin's remote, backcountry location made it a challenging destination even during its years as a public rental. The cabin was part of the Forest Service recreation rental program but was eliminated from public availability in the early 2000s. Along with nearby Kersey Lake Cabin, Round Lake Cabin required considerable effort to reach, which contributed to the decision to remove it from the rental inventory. The cabin is no longer bookable through Recreation.gov or other Forest Service reservation systems. While the structure may still exist as a historic Forest Service facility, it is not currently available for public overnight use. Visitors interested in Forest Service cabin rentals in this region should consider the 28+ other cabins and lookouts available in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, some of which offer access to similar backcountry terrain near Yellowstone National Park.
