About

Snyder Guard Station, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982, offers a distinctive recreation rental experience on the banks of the scenic Moyie River. This former Forest Service work station, constructed between 1906 and 1936, includes seven historic buildings spread across 10 lovely acres. The complex features a main ranger house with three bedrooms, bathroom with flush toilet and hot shower, living room, dining room, and fully equipped kitchen. Two small log cabins provide rustic accommodations with beds and tables but no electricity. The cookhouse seats 30 with cookware and place settings. The camping area includes a 50' x 30' covered picnic shelter with fireplace and grills, six campsites with picnic tables and fire rings, vault toilets, drinking water faucets, and parking for 10 vehicles. The property accommodates up to 70 people, making it ideal for large gatherings or intimate family getaways. RVs are welcome at six sites but must be self-contained as no hookups or dump stations are available. Horse corrals are provided for equestrian visitors. Located at 2,500 feet elevation along the Moyie River, 8 miles south of the Canadian border, the station sits in a mixed conifer forest of Douglas fir and spruce. Wildlife including elk, deer, black bears, moose, and bald eagles inhabit the area. Outdoor recreation includes fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking on the Moyie River and nearby lakes. Over 70 miles of trails are accessible for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and motorcycling. Copper Falls viewpoint trail is just a few miles away. Seasonal activities include hunting, huckleberry picking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
