AQAMT The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality alert for Beaverhead, Deer Lodge, Flathead, Granite, Jefferson, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, Madison, Mineral, Missoula, Powell, Ravalli, Sanders, Silver Bow counties in effect until 9AM on 08/10/2026 An Air Quality Alert means that particulates have been trending upwards and that an exceedance of the 24 hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near future. As of 7AM on 08/09/2026, particulate levels in Dillon, Libby and Thompson Falls are Unhealthy. As of 7AM on 08/09/2026, particulate levels in Billings, Butte, Hamilton, Lewistown and Sleeping Giant are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Red Top Campground is a quiet, free primitive campground nestled in the Yaak River area of the Kootenai National Forest in northwestern Montana. Located northwest of Troy along Highway 508, this small campground offers just 3 sites, making it an ideal destination for those seeking solitude in a remote forested setting. Each campsite comes equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The only facility is a vault toilet. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. This is a pack-in/pack-out campground, meaning all trash must be carried out. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees and no reservations. The campground is managed from Memorial Day through Labor Day but remains accessible year-round, weather and road conditions permitting. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash. Fireworks are prohibited on all National Forest lands.
