About
Smokey Boulder Dispersed camping area is located along Forest Service Road 074, approximately ten miles north of New Meadows on Highway 95. The road leads into the hills on the west side of the highway and loops south, meeting the highway again in Price Valley. Numerous dispersed campsites are scattered throughout this area, offering primitive camping opportunities in the Payette National Forest. This area operates on a pack it in, pack it out basis with no services provided. While some campsites contain fire rings and tables, most sites are completely undeveloped. The area sees its heaviest use during hunting season in September and October. Campers should be prepared for primitive conditions and bring all necessary supplies, including water. The area is subject to Payette National Forest regulations, including a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day consecutive period. Road conditions vary seasonally, and winter access may be limited by snow. Dispersed camping allows visitors to experience the forest in a more remote setting while following Leave No Trace principles.
Directions
From New Meadows, travel approximately 10 miles north on Highway 95. Turn west onto Smokey Boulder Road (FSR 074). Dispersed campsites are located along this road, which loops south and meets Highway 95 again in Price Valley.
