About
Goose Lake Dispersed camping area consists of multiple undeveloped camping spots scattered along Goose Lake and Goose Lake Road in the Payette National Forest. Located at approximately 6,300 feet elevation, the area is surrounded by Engelmann Spruce and Lodgepole Pine forest. The sites are primitive and not designed for large RVs, though several fire rings and vault toilets are located throughout the camping area. The area is typically snow-free from July through October, making it accessible for summer and early fall camping. Goose Lake itself is a no-wake lake that allows motorized boats, and visitors enjoy fishing, canoeing, and horseback riding. A developed campground, Grouse Campground, is located nearby along the shore of Goose Lake for those seeking more amenities. Access is via Goose Lake Road (Forest Road 257), which is located approximately 5 miles west of McCall on Highway 55. The road also provides access to Brundage Mountain Ski Resort. Standard dispersed camping regulations apply, with a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day consecutive period. Campers should be prepared for primitive conditions and pack out all trash.
