About

Goose Lake Dispersed is a collection of primitive camping spots scattered along Goose Lake and Goose Lake Road in the New Meadows Ranger District of the Payette National Forest. These undeveloped sites offer a backcountry camping experience with minimal infrastructure. Fire rings and outhouses are available, but campers should expect to be self-sufficient. The area is typically accessible from July through October when snow-free conditions prevail. Sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations. The terrain and undeveloped nature of the sites make them unsuitable for large RVs. Campers must pack out all trash and leave no trace. Goose Lake itself is a no-wake lake that permits motorized watercraft, with a boat ramp located at the nearby Grouse Campground. Hikers can access the Granite Mountain trailhead for trips to Twin Lakes (2.4 miles roundtrip) or Granite Mountain Lookout (5.5 miles roundtrip).

Directions

From McCall, travel five miles west on Highway 55. Turn right on Goose Lake Road/Forest Road #257 and proceed nine miles north. Dispersed campsites are located along Goose Lake Road north of Grouse Campground.
