About

Grouse Campground provides lakeside camping on Goose Lake within Payette National Forest, just 16 miles from McCall, Idaho. Situated at 6,363 feet elevation in the Salmon River Mountain range, the campground features 21 sites spread through a forest of Engelmann spruce and lodgepole pine. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with many sites offering views of the lake. A horse-unloading ramp and hitching rail near the boat ramp make this a popular destination for equestrians. Goose Lake is a no-wake lake, though motorized boats are permitted. The lake supports rainbow and brook trout fishing, and the calm waters are ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Nearby trails lead to Granite Mountain Lookout and Goose Creek Falls, with opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, and dirt biking. Brundage Mountain Resort nearby offers scenic chairlift rides and lift-served mountain biking in summer. The campground provides vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. There are no hookups, showers, or trash service; campers must pack out all garbage. Reservations for some sites are available through Recreation.gov, while others remain first-come, first-served.
