About

Mason Neck State Park is a day-use park located just 20 miles south of Washington, D.C., on a peninsula formed by Pohick Bay, Belmont Bay and the Potomac River. The park does not have any camping facilities, including paddle-in campsites. The 1,856-acre park is known for its diverse habitats including wetlands, forests, open water, ponds and open fields, making it ideal for wildlife observation, particularly American bald eagles. Visitors can access the water via a car-top boat launch for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Seasonal rentals are available from April through October, weather permitting, for exploring Belmont Bay and Kane's Creek. The park features over six miles of hiking trails, three miles of paved multi-use trails, a visitor center with exhibits and gift shop, picnic areas, and a playground. It adjoins the Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge. For overnight accommodations, visitors can stay at nearby Pohick Bay Regional Park, which offers camping facilities.
