About
Half Moon Lake Campground sits on the northeast shore of Half Moon Lake at 7,600 feet elevation in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The campground features 17 sites, three of which offer direct lake access. Heavy willow stands provide excellent privacy between sites, while an aspen overstory offers shade. The lake was created by glacial movements and is surrounded by the foothills of the Wind River Mountains, with lodgepole pine, Douglas-fir, and aspen stands interspersed with sagebrush and rocky outcroppings along the lakeshore. Anglers enjoy fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, and lake trout in the lake. The campground provides direct beach access for water sports including boating, swimming, canoeing, and paddle boarding. A boat launch with dock and additional vault toilets is located approximately half a mile down the main road. Two miles down the gravel road is a hiking trail suitable for users of all abilities. This is a primitive campground with unpaved access roads and no drinking water available; water must be treated or filtered from nearby sources.
Directions
From Pinedale, head east on Highway 191 and turn left onto Fremont Lake Road. Continue for approximately 3 miles where the road transitions to Skyline Drive/Forest Service Road 370740. Continue on FS-370740 for 3.8 miles, then turn left onto Half Moon Lake Road/FS-370743. Follow FS-370743 for 1 mile; the campground is on the right. Approximately 9 miles, 15 minutes from Pinedale.
