About
The John Slyder Farmhouse stands as a witness to one of the most pivotal battles in American history, located within the 6,000-acre Gettysburg National Military Park. During the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, this historic structure served as a defensive position for Union sharpshooters. Set back from the roadways and nestled between famous landmarks like Little Round Top and Devil's Den, the farmhouse offers visitors an extraordinary opportunity to stay on hallowed ground. Beautifully restored and updated in 2024 while maintaining its historic character, the farmhouse provides modern comfort in a 19th-century setting. The accommodation features a large loft bedroom with two queen beds, one bathroom, and a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen complete with modern appliances including a Keurig coffee maker, stove, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Central heating and air conditioning ensure year-round comfort. The sitting room provides space to relax after exploring the battlefield. Bed linens, sheets, pillows, and a limited supply of towels are provided. The location offers unparalleled access to battlefield exploration. Trails are available in close proximity to the house, and visitors can enjoy self-guided auto tours, licensed battlefield guided tours, and both paved and unpaved trails throughout the park. The park's visitor center features the Gettysburg cyclorama painting, original artifacts, and genealogy resources. Eisenhower National Historic Site is just five minutes away. The pastoral landscape encompasses forested knolls with mature oak and hickory trees, seasonal wildflowers including bluebells, violets, and black-eyed susans, and abundant wildlife. The historic town of Gettysburg is a short drive away, offering restaurants, shops, and additional historic sites.
