About
Pine Grove Furnace State Park campground is nestled in the scenic South Mountain region at the northern tip of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Cumberland County. The 70-site campground operates from late March through mid-December and provides modern amenities including flush toilets, hot water showers, and a dump station. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The 696-acre park is steeped in both natural beauty and history, featuring two mountain lakes (Laurel Lake and Fuller Lake) for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating. The park preserves the remains of Pine Grove Iron Furnace, one of the most productive iron-making communities of the 19th century. A self-guided historical walking tour explores the old structures. The campground sits along the Appalachian Trail at its halfway point, making it popular with thru-hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. A seasonal camp store is located a quarter-mile from the campground. The park offers extensive hiking trails through Michaux State Forest and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. Organized group tenting areas accommodate up to 180 people in six separate sites surrounding an open playfield.
