About

Camp Round Meadow is a historic group camping facility nestled in Catoctin Mountain Park's 5,890-acre mixed hardwood forest along the eastern Blue Ridge Mountains. Originally constructed for the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1939 to 1941, the camp later served as the first Job Corps Center in the United States from 1965 to 1969. Today, it operates as a four-season group facility exclusively available for organized groups. The camp accommodates up to 120 guests in four universally accessible dormitories, each containing 30 twin beds with vinyl-covered mattresses, two bathrooms with flush toilets, accessible hot showers, and water fountain stations. The facilities feature electricity and heat, with one dormitory equipped with wheelchair-accessible ramps. The 1,746-square-foot dining hall connects to a 384-square-foot commercial kitchen outfitted with industrial appliances including ranges, convection oven, freezer, refrigerator, ice machine, and dishwasher. The gymnasium includes an indoor basketball court and restrooms with hot showers, while the 765-square-foot conference room accommodates up to 51 people. Outdoor amenities include a campfire ring with wooden bench seating, grass athletic field, lighted gazebo, and outdoor picnic area. The camp is shaded by large trees and surrounded by hiking trails, with fishing available by permit in the park and nearby Cunningham Falls State Park. Groups have access to split firewood provided by the park. The facility requires reservations and does not accept walk-ins, with check-in between 3:00-4:30 PM and mandatory ranger-led inspections at check-in and check-out. Groups are responsible for all cleaning and must provide their own kitchen supplies and cleaning products.

Directions

From Washington DC, take I-495 to I-270 north 27 miles to Frederick. Take Route 15 north 17 miles to Thurmont. Exit onto Route 77 West toward Catoctin Mountain Park. Travel 6 miles west on Route 77, passing the park visitor center. Turn right onto Foxville-Deerfield Road, then right at the fork onto Manahan Road. Continue 3/4 mile and turn left into Camp Round Meadow. Park in the gravel parking lot. GPS address: 14840 Manahan Road, Sabillasville, MD 21780.
