About
Camp Misty Mount brings together families and small groups for rustic mountain cabin camping in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains. This historic camp, completed in 1937 as part of the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression, features 29 American chestnut log cabins and lodges listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The camp is surrounded by Eastern deciduous hardwood forests in the Blue Ridge Province. Cabins accommodate 3-6 people, while three lodges sleep up to 8. Most cabins feature interior and exterior lighting, metal cots with vinyl mattresses, picnic tables, and fire rings, though they lack running water, heat, or electrical outlets. Cabin 16 offers upgraded amenities including a bathroom with flush toilet and hot shower, plus a kitchenette. All guests bring their own bedding and cooking supplies. Three centrally located bathhouses throughout the camp provide hot showers, flush toilets, and sinks. Three dishwashing stations with potable water are available. A swimming pool operates late May through early September. The camp serves as a gateway to Catoctin Mountain Park's 25+ miles of hiking trails, with the Wolf Rock trailhead just steps away. Visitors enjoy wildlife watching, bouldering, rock climbing, and fly fishing. Nearby trails lead to Hog Rock, Thurmont Vista, and Cunningham Falls, Maryland's tallest waterfall. A dining hall with commercial kitchen is available for groups renting at least 8 cabins.
