About
Slough Creek Campground occupies a prime location in Yellowstone's Northern Range, roughly 7 miles from Tower-Roosevelt Junction at the end of a narrow 2-mile dirt road. At 6,250 feet elevation, the campground provides front-row access to the Lamar Valley, widely considered the best wildlife viewing area in Yellowstone. Wolf packs, grizzly bears, bison herds, and elk are regularly observed from nearby pullouts, particularly at dawn and dusk. The campground's 16 sites are designed for tent camping and smaller RVs. The access road and tight turnaround make vehicles over 25 feet impractical. Each site has a fire grate, and food storage lockers are provided given the high bear activity. Vault toilets and seasonal potable water are available. Generators are strictly prohibited, preserving the campground's quiet character and dark skies. The Slough Creek Trail departs from nearby, following a historic wagon route into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. The creek itself is a popular fly-fishing destination. Quiet hours run 10 PM to 6 AM and are strictly enforced. Camping is limited to 14 days between July 1 and Labor Day.
Directions
From Tower-Roosevelt Junction, drive 5.5 miles east on the Northeast Entrance Road. Turn left onto the signed Slough Creek Road and continue 2 miles on the narrow dirt road to the campground.
