About

Hick's Park Campground offers a peaceful retreat in the Main Boulder drainage of the Custer Gallatin National Forest, approximately 46 miles south of Big Timber. Situated at 5,500 feet elevation, this intimate five-acre campground features 16 sites surrounded by gentle hills and coniferous forest. The Boulder River provides excellent fishing opportunities nearby, and the campground serves as a gateway to exploring the adjacent Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. The campground's remote location requires commitment: it sits 25 miles south of Big Timber on US 298, then another 21 miles south on Main Boulder Road (County Road 212). The access road is narrow with no turnaround, suitable only for vehicles under 32 feet, and travel with trailers is not recommended south of Hells Canyon. During the operating season, basic amenities include vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. This is a destination for campers seeking solitude and wilderness access rather than modern conveniences. The rugged access and primitive facilities reward visitors with a genuine backcountry experience while maintaining vehicle accessibility. Anglers, hikers, and those looking to escape crowds will find Hick's Park an ideal base camp for exploring Montana's high country.
