About

Slate Creek Campground sits along the West Fork of the Bitterroot River near Painted Rocks Lake, offering a quiet, primitive camping experience in Montana's Bitterroot National Forest. The campground features 13 sites distributed across two loops: the front loop has 4 sites, while the back loop contains 9 sites. Each loop has its own vault toilet. Sites include fire rings and picnic tables, though campers should note that site #15 has benches instead of a traditional picnic table. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out campground with no potable water, hookups, dump station, or showers. The fee is $10 per night for a single site, with an additional $5 for extra vehicles. Senior and Access pass holders receive a 50% discount on single campsites. Payment is by cash or check only. The front loop remains open year-round, though access depends on snow conditions. The back loop operates seasonally from June 1 through September 30. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., camping is limited to 16 consecutive days, pets must be leashed, and food storage is required to minimize bear encounters.
