About
Sam Billings Memorial Campground is located in the West Fork area of Bitterroot National Forest, approximately 18 miles from Darby, Montana. This rustic, no-fee campground features 12 campsites arranged with picnic tables and fire rings, along with a spacious area suitable for group gatherings. The facility can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 30 feet in length. The campground serves as an excellent base for wilderness exploration, with the adjacent Boulder Creek Trailhead providing direct access to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. A separate horse camp facility is located next to the campground, making this an ideal location for equestrian camping and trail riding. Vault toilets are provided, but campers must bring their own drinking water. Nearby Boulder Creek offers fishing opportunities. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Camping is limited to 16 consecutive days, and quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Pets must be kept on leash. The facility experiences light use and is subject to seasonal closure, typically closing in October due to winter weather conditions and reopening in late spring or early summer.

From Darby, head south on Highway 93 for 4.3 miles. Turn right onto West Fork Road and travel 13.2 miles. Turn right onto Sam Billings Road (FS 5731) and travel 0.8 miles to the campground.
