About

Skipout Campground sits at an elevation of 2,100 feet along the east shore of Skipout Lake within the Black Kettle National Grassland in western Oklahoma. This free, developed campground is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and offers approximately 12 camping units, including two back-in RV sites and around ten tent sites. The grassland encompasses over 30,000 acres of prairie landscape near Cheyenne, Oklahoma. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, potable water, and picnic tables at each site. Skipout Lake offers opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, and canoeing, with a boat ramp available at the recreation area. Popular fish species include bass, catfish, and panfish. The surrounding grasslands provide habitat for diverse wildlife and opportunities for hiking, bird watching, and nature observation. Skipout Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no hookups or reservations. The area is popular with hunters during season and offers a quiet, remote camping experience in the shortgrass prairie ecosystem. Campers should be prepared for open prairie conditions with limited shade and potential wind exposure.
