Black Kettle Campground sits at 2,100 feet elevation within the Black Kettle National Grassland, part of the Cibola National Forest system. Located near Cheyenne, Oklahoma, this 12-site campground offers a quiet grassland camping experience with basic amenities including vault toilets, potable water, and picnic tables at each site. The campground is adjacent to a small lake offering fishing opportunities when water levels permit. The surrounding grasslands provide habitat for diverse wildlife and opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and nature observation. The nearby Washita Battlefield National Historic Site offers historical context about the area's significance to the Cheyenne and Arapaho peoples. All camping is first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. The campground operates year-round with no seasonal closures. Fees are posted at the recreation site. The grassland encompasses over 31,000 acres across Oklahoma and a small portion of Texas, with additional camping options at Skipout and Lake Marvin campgrounds.
