About

Lake Marvin Campground is nestled within the Lake Marvin Recreation Area, a 576-acre parcel that comprises the Texas portion of Black Kettle National Grassland in Hemphill County. Located 12 miles east of Canadian, Texas, the campground sits at an elevation of 2,000 feet and offers 12 camping units adjacent to a 63-acre lake. The campground provides both tent camping and RV sites with electrical hookups available. Amenities include potable water, restrooms, picnic tables, and access to day-use facilities. The recreation area is cooperatively managed by the U.S. Forest Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, offering a range of outdoor activities. The surrounding shortgrass prairie landscape provides excellent opportunities for birding, with two observation blinds available for wildlife viewing. The lake offers fishing for bass, catfish, and panfish from shore or boat. Hiking trails traverse the area, and the grassland setting provides scenic photography opportunities. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is open year-round, making it an accessible basecamp for exploring the Texas High Plains.
