About
Lake Marvin Cabins are situated within the Lake Marvin Recreation Area, a 576-acre unit of Black Kettle National Grassland located in Hemphill County, Texas, approximately 12 miles east of Canadian. The recreation area centers around a scenic 63-acre lake surrounded by a mix of open grasslands, marshes, and woodlands that provide habitat for diverse wildlife including deer, turkeys, wood ducks, and barred owls. The area sits at an elevation of 2,000 feet in the short grass prairie of the southern Great Plains.
The Lake Marvin Recreation Area is operated cooperatively by the USDA Forest Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. In addition to cabin accommodations, the area features camping facilities, picnicking areas, two wildlife observation blinds, and a 1.75-mile hiking trail that circles the lake. The lake is popular for fishing and offers opportunities for both shore fishing and boating. The recreation area is managed under a multiple-use policy emphasizing range management, watershed protection, recreation, and wildlife habitat.
