Sims Flat Campground is situated along the Sacramento River at 1,600 feet elevation in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, approximately 20 miles south of Mount Shasta city. The campground features 19 sites with tables and fire rings, suitable for tents and mid-sized RVs or trailers. Flush toilets and piped drinking water are available during the operating season. This location holds historic significance as the site of a Civilian Conservation Corps camp from the 1930s. Interpretive signs throughout the campground depict the CCC camp and the suspension bridge spanning the river that was built during that era. The Sacramento River here is world-renowned for trout fishing, making it a popular destination for anglers. During spring runoff, the river attracts whitewater boaters taking advantage of high water flows. Train enthusiasts also enjoy watching Union Pacific freight trains making their way through the canyon. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Access is via Interstate 5, taking the Sims exit and crossing the bridge over the Sacramento River. The entrance is located just past the bridge on the right side.

Directions

From Mount Shasta city, take Interstate 5 south approximately 20 miles to the Sims exit. Turn left under the freeway and drive another mile to the bridge that crosses the Sacramento River. The campground entrance is on the right, just past the bridge.
