Road access via Independence Pass is usually available Memorial Day through mid-October. No potable water is available this season at Maroon Bells Scenic Area; campers should bring their own water supply.

WHERE...Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Rio Blanco, Garfield, Eagle, Summit, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Mesa, Pitkin, Lake, Park, Delta, Gunnison, Chaffee, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, and northern parts of Montezuma and Saguache Counties. Locations include, but are not limited to Craig, Steamboat Springs, Walden, Granby, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, Meeker, Rangely, Glenwood Springs, Eagle, Vail, Breckenridge, Central City, Georgetown, Grand Junction, Aspen, Leadville, Fairplay, Delta, Gunnison, Buena Vista, Salida, Montrose, Nucla, Ouray, Telluride, Dove Creek, and Saguache. WHEN...900 AM Wednesday July 01 to 900 AM Thursday July 02 IMPACTS...Areas downwind of large fires in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah could have periods of moderate to heavy smoke through at least Thursday morning. About

Silver Queen Campground sits at 8,460 feet elevation just outside Aspen, Colorado, hemmed in by aspen groves with views of 14,018-foot Pyramid Peak. The campground is located along Maroon Creek within the iconic Maroon Bells Scenic Area of White River National Forest, providing access to one of Colorado's most photographed mountain landscapes. The five reservable sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 30 feet in length. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring, and access to vault toilets, bear boxes, and drinking water. No electrical hookups are available. The campground enforces an 8-person, 2-vehicle limit per site and a 5-day maximum stay. The Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness offers exceptional hiking and backpacking opportunities. The West Maroon Trail from Maroon Lake climbs through aspen groves, boulder fields, and high mountain passes above 10,000 feet. Summer days are warm with cool evenings, though afternoon thunderstorms are common and snow is possible even at peak season.

Directions

From Aspen: Take Highway 82 West 1 mile to the roundabout. From the roundabout, take Maroon Creek Road 4.7 miles to the Maroon Bells Welcome Station. Continue past the Welcome Station 1.5 miles. Silver Queen Campground is on the left, approximately 6.5 miles from Highway 82. From Glenwood Springs: Take Highway 82 East 40 miles to the roundabout, then follow the same route via Maroon Creek Road.
