About

Silver Bar Campground sits on the banks of Maroon Creek in White River National Forest, approximately five miles southwest of Aspen and adjacent to the Maroon Bells Welcome Station. This small primitive facility features four tent-only walk-in sites at an elevation of 8,460 feet, where warm summer days give way to cool mountain evenings with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Snow is possible even at the peak of summer. Each site is equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and bear box for food storage. Centralized vault toilets are located just yards from each campsite. One accessible campsite is positioned near the toilets. Potable water is not available; campers must bring their own supply. Bear-proof trash receptacles are provided. The campground offers direct creek access for licensed anglers and serves as a gateway to the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. The West Maroon Trail from nearby Maroon Lake leads hikers through aspen groves, boulder fields, and alpine terrain above 10,000 feet. A $10 vehicle pass is required for Maroon Valley access in addition to camping fees.

Directions

From Highway 82 in Aspen, take the Maroon Creek Road exit at the roundabout on the west edge of town. Follow Maroon Creek Road approximately 5 miles to the Welcome Station. Silver Bar Campground is on the left.
