The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Red Flag Warning below 8000 feet for gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels, which is in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Wednesday. A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels is in effect from Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...In Colorado, Fire Weather Zone 205 Colorado River Headwaters below 8000 feet. * TIMING...For the first Red Flag Warning, until 9 PM MDT this evening. For the second Red Flag Warning, from noon to 8 PM MDT Wednesday. For the Fire Weather Watch, from Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening. * WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...7 to 12 percent. * IMPACTS...Fires will catch and spread quickly. About

East Maroon Portal Picnic Site is a day-use facility located along Maroon Creek in Colorado's White River National Forest, within the renowned Maroon Bells Scenic Area. The site offers stunning views of red stone cliffs, wetlands, and evergreen forests at the edge of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. The picnic area can accommodate up to 70 people and is equipped with three large picnic tables, vault toilets, and bear-proof food lockers and waste receptacles. No potable water is available. The site is open for general public use but can be reserved for private events, making it the only location in the Maroon Bells Scenic Area permitted for wedding receptions. Vehicle traffic is restricted on Maroon Creek Road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. past the Maroon Bells Welcome Station. Reservations include five vehicle passes; other visitors must use the shuttle bus. This is strictly a day-use facility with no overnight camping allowed.

Directions

From Aspen, take Highway 82 west from downtown for a mile to the roundabout. Take Maroon Creek Road 4.7 miles to the Maroon Bells Welcome Station; East Maroon Portal is 2 miles past the Welcome Station on the left. From Glenwood Springs, take Highway 82 for 40 miles to the roundabout, then follow Maroon Creek Road as described above.
