Silver Lake Campground
Closed — Closed for the season. The campground is open year-round but is typically staffed and most accessible from Memorial Day through Indigenous Peoples Day, with services and access potentially limited during winter months.
Special Weather Statement issued December 29 at 1:04PM EST by NWS Burlington VT
Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing this afternoon and evening. This will lead to any untreated surfaces quickly freezing. Sacttered snow showers could quickly coat roads. Use caution if driving or walking. Increasing winds this afternoon and evening could cause isolated power outages due to lingering ice loading on trees and powerlines. Wind chills below zero tonight will affect anyone still without power or outside.
About
Silver Lake Campground is a primitive hike-in or bike-in campground located on the shores of 100-acre Silver Lake in the heart of Vermont's Moosalamoo National Recreation Area within Green Mountain National Forest. The campground is accessible via a 0.6-mile hike on the Goshen Trail or a 1.5-mile bike ride from the parking lot at the end of Forest Road 27. The campground features 15 irregularly spaced campsites along a wooded road, with seven sites available for advance reservation through Recreation.gov and eight available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and bear-proof food storage locker. The campground has two vault toilets, with an additional accessible vault toilet located in the nearby picnic area. A spring is available for water, though all water must be treated or boiled before use. There are no showers, hookups, or garbage service; visitors must pack out all trash. Silver Lake is surrounded by National Forest on all sides and has attracted visitors for generations. The area holds cultural significance as a place where ancestors of today's Abenaki people enjoyed the natural beauty. The Moosalamoo National Recreation Area offers over 70 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking, including the Leicester Hollow/Chandler Ridge loop and the Rattlesnake Cliff/Aunt Jenny loop. Swimming and fishing are popular activities on the lake. The campground is staffed with hosts typically from Memorial Day through Indigenous Peoples Day.
