About

Bruneau Dunes State Park encompasses 4,800 acres of high desert terrain in southwestern Idaho's Owyhee County, centered around a remarkable geological feature: North America's tallest single-structured sand dune at 470 feet. The park offers sandboarding and hiking on the dunes, fishing in the 160-acre lake, and exceptional stargazing at the public observatory. Camping is available in two main campground loops (Broken Wheel and Eagle Cove) with 82 serviced sites featuring water and 30/50-amp electric hookups, plus 35 standard sites without hookups. Two ADA-accessible sites and two cabins are also available. The equestrian campground provides 19 first-come-first-served sites with year-round water from frost-free spigots. Facilities include flush toilets, hot-water showers, a dump station, and Wi-Fi at the Visitor Center and Observatory. Water and shower facilities are typically shut off from mid-October through mid-March, though camping remains available year-round. The park is certified as an International Dark Sky Park, making it an excellent destination for astronomy enthusiasts.
