About
North Fork Campground is a small, popular semi-developed campground managed by the Bureau of Land Management, situated in the scenic beauty of the North Fork of the Owyhee River Canyon. The campground is located approximately 27 miles southeast of Jordan Valley, Oregon, along the Owyhee Uplands Backcountry Byway where the road crosses the North Fork of the Owyhee River. Much of the surrounding canyon was designated as the North Fork Owyhee Wilderness in March 2009, and portions of the river are classified as Wild and Scenic. The campground offers camping and picnicking opportunities in a remote, rugged canyon setting with steep vertical walls ranging from 200 to 500 feet in depth. The area features dramatic rhyolite monoliths and pinnacle formations, and the river provides opportunities for whitewater rafting and kayaking, with the put-in at the campground leading to a 13.6-mile route to Three Forks. Wildlife includes cliff-nesting raptors, sage-grouse habitat, and various reptile and amphibian species. Campers should come prepared for a remote backcountry experience. There is no potable water available at this site, so visitors must bring all necessary water. The campground is accessed via the Owyhee Uplands Backcountry Byway, a remote backcountry road that may require high-clearance vehicles and can be impassable during wet conditions or winter weather.
