About

Siltcoos Sand Camping is a unique primitive camping area located about seven miles south of Florence in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The 16 campsites are positioned directly on the sand among wind-sculpted dunes that tower hundreds of feet above sea level. This is a true off-road enthusiast's destination, offering miles of designated OHV routes that crisscross the dunes and coastal forests, plus a large open riding area north of Siltcoos Beach Road. All campsites require 4X4 vehicle access and are available year-round by reservation through Recreation.gov. Standard sites accommodate up to 20 people and five vehicles, while the group site holds up to 40 people and 10 vehicles. All camping equipment and vehicles must remain within 150 feet of the campsite marker post. This is an entirely primitive facility with no water, restrooms, or fire rings. Campers must bring their own drinking water, portable toilets, fire pans, and pack out all trash. Beyond OHV riding, the area offers access to non-motorized trails from the Stagecoach Trailhead, including the accessible Lagoon Trail and the Waxmyrtle Trail, which winds through coastal shore pine forests to the beach. Visitors enjoy beachcombing, birding, and seasonal whale watching. Snowy plover nesting habitat on Siltcoos Beach results in seasonal beach access restrictions from March 15 through September 15. A 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period applies.

Directions

From Florence, travel about 7 miles south on Highway 101 to Siltcoos Beach Access Road. Turn right (west) and proceed 1.3 miles to the Driftwood II Campground entrance.
