Driftwood is a premier destination for off-roading enthusiasts seeking the thrill of dune riding combined with developed campsite comforts. Located seven miles south of Florence along the Siltcoos Beach Access Road, the campground sits in the heart of Oregon's coastal dunes within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The Driftwood II OHV route departs directly from the campground, leading riders north through coastal forest into expansive open sand dunes that extend all the way to South Jetty Road. The campground is surrounded by shore pine, waxmyrtle, huckleberry, and salal, with the Siltcoos River flowing nearby from Siltcoos Lake to the Pacific Ocean. Beyond OHV riding, visitors can enjoy beachcombing, swimming, and wildlife watching at the nearby beach. Seasonal whale watching is possible, and the Siltcoos Lake offers bass, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout fishing. Non-motorized hikers can explore the Waxmyrtle Trail along the Siltcoos River or the Lagoon Trail. The campground offers 67 sites including standard sites with picnic tables and fire pits, plus RV pull-through sites 49-58 which lack these amenities. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, and trash collection. Dogs are permitted on leashes no longer than 6 feet. Beach hiking is restricted March 15 through September 15 to protect nesting western snowy plovers.
Directions
From Florence, OR, travel about seven miles south on Highway 101 to the Siltcoos Beach Access Road. Turn right and proceed for 1.3 miles to the Driftwood II Campground entrance. Turn right and follow the access road for a short distance, then make a second right into the campground.
