About

Side Lake Campground occupies a wooded setting at McCarthy Beach State Park in Minnesota's Iron Range country. The campground features several distinct loops: the first loop contains most electric campsites, the middle loop offers shaded interior sites ideal for tent camping and small groups seeking privacy, and the far loop provides a more rustic atmosphere with gravel roads and towering pines suited for tent campers and small trailers. The park centers on one of the finest swimming beaches in the Minnesota state park system, with shallow sandy waters perfect for families. Boat rentals including canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and paddleboats are available, and the campground provides convenient access to explore Side Lake and the broader Sturgeon Lake chain. Hiking and biking trails wind through the surrounding forest. Facilities include a shower building, vault toilets, water spigots throughout the loops, and an RV dump station. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The park offers adaptive beach equipment including a floating beach wheelchair and all-terrain track chairs for trail access.
