About

Avery Creek Cabin sits 20 miles northeast of Kingston, Idaho, in the heart of the Coeur d'Alene Mountains at 3,000 feet elevation. Built between 1926 and 1928 to house Forest Service employees for administrative supervision and fire protection, this historic firemen's cabin was renovated in 1940 with the addition of a bathroom and has been fully updated to be accessible while maintaining its rustic character. The cabin housed fire crews until 1981 before transitioning to recreational use. The three-room cabin accommodates six guests with a bedroom containing a double bed and bunk beds, a living room with a fold-out couch and dining table, and a fully equipped kitchenette with electric range, refrigerator, cookware, and hot and cold running water from an untreated well system. The bathroom features a flush toilet, sink, and shower stall. Electric baseboard heat keeps the cabin comfortable, and a covered front porch with chairs overlooks the surrounding evergreen forest. Outside amenities include a picnic table, barbecue grill, and campfire ring. The cabin's location along the North Fork Coeur d'Alene River provides excellent fishing for cutthroat and rainbow trout, tubing opportunities, and access to both motorized and non-motorized trails. Nearby attractions include a short hike to Centennial Falls, Lost Creek Trail, Settler's Grove Botanical Area, and Shoshone Ridge for non-motorized recreation, plus Graham and Coal Creek trails for motorized use. A picnic area built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935 sits directly across the road. Paved road access makes the cabin easy to reach by car.
