About
Shipwreck Creek Campground opened June 1, 2022, as Split Rock Lighthouse State Park's first drive-in modern camping option. Located on the hillside across Highway 61 from the iconic lighthouse, the campground offers 46 electric sites designed primarily for RVs, with most sites featuring 70-foot parking pads that accommodate large rigs. The thoughtfully designed layout positions sites on angled driveways separated by native plantings, providing privacy despite the campground's size. Sites are far enough from the highway that road noise is minimal. Each campsite includes 30 and 50-amp electrical service, a picnic table, fire ring, and grassy areas suitable for tents or screen rooms. Five sites are ADA accessible. The campground is built around a large hill with steep terrain, so expect uphill walks or bike rides depending on your site location. Gravel driveways are not entirely level, so leveling blocks are recommended. Well-planned drainage systems prevent flooding even during heavy rain. The centrally located modern shower building includes separate men's and women's restrooms with flush toilets and sinks, two accessible bathrooms with showers, and four individual shower rooms. A dishwashing station with two sinks is located on the back of the building. Vault toilets are positioned throughout the campground for convenience. The campground has no hookups for water or sewer, and there is no dump station at the park. Water spigots are available throughout the campground for drinking water but are not designed for RV filling. Campers should plan to use dump and fill stations at nearby Gooseberry Falls or Tettegouche State Parks. Shipwreck Creek provides excellent access to the Split Rock Wilds Mountain Bike Trail System, the paved Gitchi Gumi State Trail running along the North Shore, and numerous hiking trails throughout the park. The historic Split Rock Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world, is a short drive or bike ride away.
