About
Baptism River Campground sits in a forested setting along the Baptism River within Tettegouche State Park, approximately 1.5 miles inland from Lake Superior. This year-round facility serves as a base camp for exploring one of Minnesota's most spectacular state parks, home to the 60-foot High Falls (the highest waterfall fully within Minnesota's borders), the dramatic Shovel Point overlook, and four pristine inland lakes. The campground provides 28 drive-in sites, with 22 sites equipped with electric hookups (20-amp and 50-amp service available). Six additional walk-in sites offer a more primitive experience and include bear-proof storage lockers. The campground uniquely features a heated building with flush toilets and showers that remains operational throughout winter, making it the only Minnesota state park to offer hot showers during the coldest months. This makes Baptism River Campground particularly popular for winter camping enthusiasts. The park's extensive trail system connects directly from the campground, providing access to Superior Hiking Trail segments, waterfalls on the Baptism River, and backcountry lakes. The rocky North Shore coastline and Shovel Point are within easy reach. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound in this rugged North Woods landscape. The park is open year-round with the campground accepting reservations through the Minnesota state parks system.
